Tops - Original Penguin

Original Penguin clothing brand was founded way back in 1955 by Abbot Pederson who at the time he worked at the Munsingwear undergarment factory based in Minneapolis.

Whilst on a sales trip to New York City, and after a fairly heavy session in a local bar, Pederson wandered down a tiny back street in Manhattan and he stumbled across a display of stuffed penguins in a taxidermist’s window. In his intoxicated state Abbot purchased ones of the stuffed animals and there and then Original Penguin was born!

Always having a keen eye on Fashion Abbot had always harboured a dream to produce casual and comfortable clothing for men. The first piece he ever created was a golf shirt back in 1955 and is still recognised today and is aptly named “The 55”

As the brand grew and became more recognised it grew in popularity and with iconic celebrities such as Richard Nixon, Frank Sinatra, James Dean, Dean Martin and Clint Eastwood becoming fans of the brand it was on ward and upward for the penguin, and a new American brand was born.

Today, Original Penguin stores exist worldwide and is also sold in luxury retailers. Since the addition of new lines including suits, watch’s, bags, belts, hats, shoes and also women’s and children’s collection's, Original Penguin has become a lifestyle brand.
